Workshop Description:

This is a workshop that will teach you some of the most effective tools in coping with the anxiety of
a cancer diagnosis and the fears of recurrence. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a highly researched
and extremely effective method of controlling anxious and depressed thoughts that drive these
feelings. We often have inaccurate and extreme thinking that underlies our feelings. Thoughts such
as “Cancer means my whole life is over”; “the loss of my breasts means I am no longer womanly”;
etc. are often at the root of anxiety and depression. Yet when we analyze the validity of those
thoughts, we begin to realize they are extreme and inaccurate. Cognitive Therapy is a method in
which we make our thoughts more accurate based on actual facts. Additionally, when mindfulness
techniques are added to this procedure, it become a very powerful and effective way of managing
anxiety and living a much fuller life.
