Biomedical Aspects of Cancer- 101

This Workshop provides a high-level overview of medical aspects of cancer, including cancer epidemiology, risk factors, prevention and screening, symptoms,  and diagnosis/staging/prognosis. It also provides information concerning cancer surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and other systemic therapies. Finally it will briefly discuss cultural/diversity issues, survivorship, advanced disease/end-of-life care, and unique challenges of younger and older cancer patient populations. 

Dr. Deane Wolcott is an emeritus attending, Department of Psychiatry, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He spent the last 26 years of his career leading the development of oncology supportive care services at Cedars-Sinai Samuel Oschin Cancer Center and a total of 19 other outpatient hospital cancer centers throughout the US managed by Salick Health Care/Aptium Oncology. He has held leadership roles in the American Psychosocial Oncology Society, and has for many years been an actively involved supporter of the Cancer Support Community. He is past Co-Chair and current member, Board of Directors, CSC Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara.
