Workshop Description:

Join us as we delve into the realm of cancer genetics to discern between acquired and inherited genetic changes, understanding their impact on cancer risk for both individuals and families. Learn how to identify genetic predispositions through family history and genetic testing, and grasp the importance of this knowledge in tailoring preventive measures. Explore common genetic mutations such as BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2, CHEK2, and ATM, equipping yourself with strategies to safeguard against cancer.

About the Presenter:

Ellen Knell, PhD had a passion for biology and genetics during high school and pursued her academic journey at UC Berkeley, Cal State, and UCLA, earning degrees in biology and genetics at the BA, MA, and PhD levels. She has worked at Columbia Presbyterian in the department of genetics, City of Hope, Children’s Hospital, St. John’s, and presently Los Robles. As a Board Certified Genetic Counselor with a PhD in genetics, she brings a wealth of expertise to her role, dedicated to guiding individuals through the complexities of genetic health.
