Session 1: Managing Anxiety During Cancer Treatment-July 16
A cancer diagnosis and treatment journey can bring overwhelming feelings of uncertainty, fear, and stress. This workshop is designed to help individuals navigate anxiety in a practical way.
Session 2: Depression and Cancer: Recognizing the Signs-July 30
While feelings of sadness, fear, and uncertainty are normal, persistent or worsening emotional distress may signal depression. This presentation explores the often-overlooked connection between cancer and depression, and emphasizing the importance of early recognition and intervention.
Speaker: Dr. Scott Irwin is currently the Director of Cedars-Sinai Cancer’s Patient and Family Support Program and a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences within Cedars-Sinai Health System. He also serves as a consultant to two medical corporations and industry. His career mostly focuses on improving outcomes for those with cancer or other progressive, potentially life-limiting illnesses, and their families, through leading-edge clinical services, ongoing research, as well as program development, improvement, and implementation. Dr. Irwin earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and both his MD and PhD (neuroscience) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
